Knitwear Care

Store knitwear folded flat or folded on hanger

Wash your wool garment only when necessary!

After activities that cause sweating, take your garment outside to air. Small stains should be gently removed with soapy water. Hand washing is recommended to keep your wool item in its best condition.

If you look after your merino well,
it will keep you warm and cozy for years to come

Store your knitwear folded, either flat or on a hanger as indicated, otherwise the knitwear will distort where it is stretched.

We make everyday knitwear, literally!
Merino is self-cleaning. To make sure your clothing stays fresh between daily wear, air it out for a couple hours overnight and any smell will disappear. Simply drape it in a well-ventilated space over a chair, on a bannister, or on a rack. Every morning it will be ready for your daily wear.

Washing Merino

It is recommended that you hand wash your merino.

Turn your garment inside out. Use cold or lukewarm water and a gentle detergent suitable for wool. Do not use washing products containing harsh chemicals. Soak the garment for a few minutes, moving the garment in one direction for a minute to fully soak in the liquid. Take it out and press out the excess water. Do not wring. Change the water and rinse your wool again. Repeat rinsing until the water remains clean. Gently press out the garment and lay it flat on a fresh towel. Roll the garment into a towel to absorb the excess water. Let your garment dry flat on the towel or rack. You can also shape the garment by hand to remove creases and give it the original shape.

To remove creases after drying if any, use the iron or a clothes steamer. When ironing, use the wool setting or low heat. Spray some water on the garment or use a damp cloth over the garment not to overheat the fiber. Do not use too much pressure when steaming with the iron.

If you choose to machine wash your merino garment, know that this may increase felting of the garment fibers as it rubs against itself and may shrink. I have used the machine to wash on delicates cycle with cool/tap water and a gentle detergent like Woolite.

Pilling Care

Pilling is a natural process that happens to all natural yarns after a certain period of wear. It is the bobbling effect that occurs when fibers become knotted together. It’s caused by friction during wear or by the build-up of static electricity underneath other garments.

Pilling can either be picked off or shaved off using a wool razor or lambswool comb. I also sometimes snip off the pills with a pair or scissors- whichever way suits you.

It’s a common misconception that yarns pill because they are cheaply made and in poor condition. Often, this is not the case at all. Pilling is entirely expected when it comes to superb, all-natural knitwear. In fact, pilling authenticates your garment's natural credentials. And remember, the softer the yarn, the more likely it is to pill.

Pilling will slow and stop on its own as more of the shorter fibers escape, leaving the long ones intact.

Cotton Care

Our cotton yarn is lustrous, colorfast, and resistent to lint and mildew. For optimal care, machine wash on delicate cycle in wash bag or handwash gently and air dry.

To remove pills, hold fabric taut and gently brush pills away with a lambswool comb
